How To Get A Free Credit Check Online

If your looking for a free credit check online you are probably well aware of the importance of your credit score and how it is used to determine your credit worthiness.

Your score can determine which type of credit card, loan or mortgage you can qualify for and most importantly the rate of interest you will be expected to pay.

To find out your true credit worth you will need copies of your credit reports and you will also need your credit scores.

Lets start with the reports.

Free Credit Reports

To make our lives more complicated there are actually three reports rather than one. There is a separate report produced by each of the three leading Consumer reporting bureaus Transunion, Equifax, and Experian. As they are separate companies the data contained in each can differ.

In the past you would had to pay a fee to obtain a copy of each report. However, since the introduction of the Fair Credit Reporting Act you can now obtain a free annual credit report from each agency. You can do this by going to federal trade commission website www.annualcreditreport.com .

Free Credit Scores

When it comes to free scores it is not as easy. Many of the consumer reporting agencies will charge you a fee to access your scores. This has become big business for the the agencies and specialist credit monitoring companies to make money out of selling peoples financial information. You can get your credit scores for free, you just have to work a little harder for them.

There are basically 2 ways that you can obtain your scores. These can either be individually or you can obtain them all together as part of a 3 and 1 credit score service.

Individual Credit Scores For Free

Each of the three reporting agencies that compile your report can also provide you with your FICO score.

Experian Credit Score

This can be obtained for a fee via their website, however, if you go to the Credit Sesame website you can obtain the Experian score for no charge. Credit Sesame provide financial advice and recommendations on financial products.

They earn their money if you sign up for a loan via their website. This means they provide a free credit check online without credit card details. There free service also enables you to monitor your  accounts , and debt repayments.

Equifax Score

You can only obtain a free Equifax credit score when you sign up for up for a free 3 and 1 monitoring service via credit.com. To access your score will need to provide your credit card details and sign up for a 30 day trial of their credit monitoring services. You will not be charged during the trial period but you should cancel it before the deadline otherwise you will be charged $14.95 each money.

Transunion  Score

If you go through the Transunion website they will charge you a fee for your score. However, Credit Karma can give you the Transunion score for free. Similar to Credit Sesame,  Credit Karma do not require you to give them your card details as they make their money on referrals.

Monitoring And identity theft insurance Services

If you need more than a credit report & score there are extra services that you can use to help improve your finances and credit worth. Specialist Monitoring companies can offer 24 access to your credit bureau files as well as identity insurance and fraud protection.

These services can offer you that extra peace of mind as they can alert you to any criminal activities that could compromise the details on your credit files. It is important to point out that these services are not for everyone and they come as part of a fee paying membership. Therefore, consider them carefully if you really need to use their services.
